How long does it take to learn to drive?
(Or how long is a piece of string)?

I teach driving as a skill which will prepare you for a lifetime of driving - not just to pass the driving test!

According to DSA statistics, the current average is 45 hours of tuition (Driving Standards Agency average, 2006), PLUS 22 hours of private practice!

People have individual learning requirements and speeds - I have coached candidates to first time test success in as little as 25 hours, but, on average, most require around 30. Some take nearer 40 or more hours hours before reaching driving test standard. Much depends on a person’s practical and learning abilities, but even more can depend upon enthusiasm and hard work!

As a driving instructor I have had the privilege of working with dyspraxic and dyslexic pupils who have proved that extra effort, determination and the will to succeed will usually overcome any difficulties encountered in the learning process.

Individual driving lessons are normally 1 hour or 1.5 hours in duration but other sessions can also be arranged
